Viva Southeast Texas is based in Beaumont, TX. Located halfway between Houston and Lake Charles, southeast Texas is a major destination for business and leisure travelers and Viva Southeast Texas magazine caters to those individuals.
When you talk about Southeast Texas, you are talking about an amazing region. Beaumont is located between Houston, TX and Lake Charles, LA on Interstate 10, which has over 110,000 cars passing through daily making this one of the busiest transportation and destination corridors in the United States. Additionally, Southeast Texas has the FOURTH largest bulk cargo ports in the country. The Beaumont region bustles with regional, national, and worldwide commerce.
Southeast Texas’ future is tied to its youth and a rapidly growing Lamar University is at the forefront of education and technology research. Lamar University is home to 14,500 students, ten research centers, the nationally recognized College of Engineering and School of Nursing and College of Business. Other centers of higher education include: Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar Port-Arthur and Lamar Orange.
One of our greatest assets is water, the Neches River runs through downtown Beaumont through to Port Neches and Port Arthur and on to Sabine Lake (and the Intercoastal Canal). Recreation is available on nearby Sam Rayburn Reservoir and Toledo Bend Lake (home to world-class bass fishing) lies to the north. The Gulf of Mexico lies to the south with its beaches, fishing, boating…all strong draws for tourism.
With the Spindeltop oil gusher in January of 1901, Southeast Texas became the birthplace of global companies like Texaco, Gulf Oil (Chevron), Magnolia (Mobil) and Humble (Exxon)! Today, Southeast Texas is home to Total PetroChemicals, Chevron, Exxon Mobile, Flint Hills, Goodyear…among many others. These international companies bring a multitude of business travelers to Southeast Texas…staying at our hotels, eating at local restaurants and looking for ways to spend their “down” time!
All of these factors makes Southeast Texas a major destination point for tourism and commerce…and creates the NEED for Viva Southeast Texas Magazine!
